We are kicking off 2020 by visiting South America and studying the Amazon Rainforest.
https://www.mapsinternational.com/political-south-america-wall-map.html Good morning,
In class we are looking at events that took place in Dos Erres, Guatemala in the early 80s. We are viewing parts of the documentary Finding Oscar. The documentary is paused several times and we discuss what is happening and students are responsible for answering questions about the days viewing. Each day a message is sent in Google Classroom informing students about the section of the documentary we watched and what questions they were to answer. IF A STUDENT IS ABSENT they are responsible for making up the work they missed. They can: (1) - come to my Homebase and watch the missing section or (2) - watch the documentary on Amazon Prime if you have that option at home. I have informed the class that there are sections we skip because of inappropriate content and they are to only watch the times I have listed. Thank you, Carrie We will be looking at parts of the documentary Finding Oscar. Here is the trailer on YouTube if you are interested in seeing what we will be watching. We will be discussing the documentary as we watch it and students are responsible for answering questions. This is a very interesting topic so I encourage you to check in with your student and have them tell you about the documentary.
This week we will be looking at the physical characteristics of Latin America. Be sure to ask your student one physical characteristic they remember or what 3 regions make up Latin America.
Students have finished their 5 Themes of Geography project!!! Check in with your student to see how they felt they did and what their final grades were.
Friday will be the day we present our Themes of Geography posters and our Tour. Tour Creator is something new I am trying this year and it is SO COOL! Ask your student to show you the tour they created, it is very impressive!
Thanks for all your help with sending in the posters! Students are well under way on their project. The research is completed and we are starting on posters and our Google Tours. Students will be given time in class to work on the project. I am thinking that we will start presentations on Wednesday, 10/23...but we'll will see how productive we are in class.
On Tuesday students will be choosing the country they wish to research and learning about the project. Ask your student which country they chose and ask them to name the 5 themes of geography. (Location, Place, Movement, Human-Environment Interaction & Region)
...there's got to be five! That song has been running through my head all day. Ask your student about the Flocabulary song we listened to. By the end of the week your student should be able to tell you what the 5 themes of geography are and some information about each theme.
By the end of the week, students should be able to distinguish between latitude and longitude. Be sure to ask your student what the difference is between the two.
This week we are staring to look at map skills. Students have become familiar with our atlases, which we will use a lot, and we are starting to review how to read a map. Ask your student what map scale is. |
